In volume 3 of Michelle Houghton’s Mixed Media Techniques series, you will learn a variety of scratch art techniques with a wide range of mediums. You will create a whole series of unique pieces as you learn these techniques. These pieces can be added to other projects or displayed as works of art on their own. Michelle will even guide you through drawing some of her unique doodled figures, shapes and repetitive patterns to add to your scratch art “tool box”.

Your Class Materials Include:

4 lessons posted each Wednesday, beginning March 19th
4 pdfs full of written step by step instructions and color photos illustrating the different techniques
4 videos to walk you through the steps and show you all the projects as they come to life

This technique is simple in it’s approach but complex in it’s results. You will explore this technique with paint, gesso, modeling paste, oil pastels, and inks. In doing so, you will learn more about these mediums, plus tips on layering these mediums. You will learn doodling and the simplest way to add texture, dimension and depth to your mixed media projects.

Lessons Include:

Week 1 – Start by using acrylic paints to create 3 different types of scratch art. When you are finished you will have a lovely set of 3 panels with figures to use on your art or be displayed.
Week 2 – Build up layers of gesso, paint and oil pastels on four small boxes that will have dimension built in with a fun scratch art technique.
Week 3 – Create a stunning work of art by layering oil pastels and ink. Learn how to “reveal” the beauty lying beneath using a scratch art technique and small repetitive patterns.
Week 4 – Add a whole new level of dimension with techniques using modeling paste. Create 3 or more tags with your newly learned scratch art techniques.
